Being a celebrity in Kenya comes with a lot of bidden as well as many privileges. The Kenyan Music industry has seen numerous growths over the past few years with Kenyan artists rising to the international standards.

From 2014, Kenyan artists have taken the countries music industry to a whole new level by recording hit songs after hit songs. Some have done very big collabo with world known artists such as Tarrus Riley, Alaine, Diamond Platinumz among others.

  1. Sauti Sol

Sauti Sol rank among the richest musicians in Kenya. The band has received multiple brand endorsements from the likes of Coca-Cola (Coke Studio Africa) and Safaricom. They have also signed multi-million partnership deals with East Africa Breweries to endorse Chrome Vodka.

The group of four (Willis Chimano, Savara Mudigi, Bien-Aime Baraza, and expert guitarist Polycarp Otieno) has established itself as a household name across Africa in recent years.

 

  1. Bahati,

Kevin Mbuvi, with his stage name Bahati became an instant sensation back in 2012. Having risen from a humble background, including being admitted to an orphanage.But the Gospel Artists has risen  above it all and now among Kenyan’s richest musicians.

  1. Akothee

Kenyan singer, the independent African Queen Esther Akoth well known as “Akothee” who won the 2019 Best Soukous Entertainer at the International Reggae World Music Awards (IRWMA) in Jamaica is the richest female artists in Kenya.

She also won the 2016 AFRIMA Best Female East Africa and is a mother of five. Akothee is a true case of rags to riches, and her story is always inspiring from a true African queen. She was married at a young age and suffered marital abuse and even worked as a matatu driver.

The kigeugeu hitmaker has grown to become one of the richest musicians in Kenya. Making his music debut more than a decade ago, Jaguar has won multiple music awards and is one of the few Kenyan artistes to have released hit after hit for more than a decade. Currently he represents Starehe constituents in Parliament.

Jaguar is a renowned artiste cum entrepreneur, and has invested in transport industry, real estates, construction industry, motor industry and the music industry. He owns a security firm, taxi firm, an auto garage and Air Jaguar, an aviation company based in Wilson Airport.

  1. Willy Paul

Willy Paul, who has been on spot light lately whether he is a gospel artiste or not, has made it big in the entertainment industry. The 2013 Grove Awards winner has released several hits since his debut, and has performed both locally and internationally.

The artiste has also signed endorsement deals landing an endorsement deal with Safari Pure Water as their official brand ambassador. He has also collaborated with big name musicians, including Gloria Muliro, Size 8 and Alaine.

Herbert Nakitare, better known as Nonini is one of the richest musicians in Kenya. Having rose to fame with his song Wee Kamu, Nonini started a music genre alongside Jua Cali with their group called Genge. He was once a radio host, and currently runs ProHabo Entertainment.

Linet Masiro Munyali, started off as a secular artist before switching her allegiance to gospel music. No one ever thought that the bubbly Size 8 would rise up the ladder to become one of the top earners in the music industry, leave alone making the elite list of richest musicians in Kenya.

Wyre is one of the richest musicians in Kenya. Wyre started with female rapper Nazizi as a duo called Necessary Noize, but he later ventured into a solo career. The dancehall artist has collaborated with international acts such as Morgan Heritage, Alaine, 2BABA, P-Square, and Cecile among others.

David Kamoni Mathenga popularly known Nameless is married to fellow superstar Wahu Kagwe, and the two have two daughters. He rose to popularity in the early 2000 and has bagged several accolades throughout his career. Inspire is arguably one of the best songs from his catalog so far but Nameless has already released another single titled Voluyuum for his fans. His hard work and established reputation in the music industry makes Nameless a top earner in Kenya.

Nyamari Ongegu, is one of the few Kenyan artists to be nominated at the MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act. Nyash is one of Kenya’s biggest artists, making a name for himself first as part of 3-man rap group Kleptomaniax and later as a solo star.

Kleptomaniax was formed by three friends in 1999 while they were still students at Nairobi School; Nyashinski, Bazokizo hitmaker Collins Majale (Collo) and Roba (Robert Manyasa).

Him together with other 5 Kenyan artists were awarded Kenyan brands feted with the YouTube Silver Play Button Award. The Silver Play Button Award is given to YouTube content creators who reach or surpass the 100,000-subscriber mark. Other awards include the Gold and Diamond Creator Award presented for 1 million subscribers and 10 million subscribers respectively.

KJ is one of the few Kenyan musicians making quite a paycheck at the moment. Identified as one of the richest musicians in Kenya 2018, KJ claims to be a businessman. He’s known for his expensive lifestyle that gives his fans a rough idea about how loaded he is.

He owns a Range Rover Sport and a recording studio and recently landed a one-year endorsement deal with winemaker Luc Belaire.
