Senate forms a committee to investigate Governor Samboja impeachment decision

The senate has formed a committee of 11 people to investigate the decision by the Taita Taveta MCAs.

30 members of the Taita Taveta county Assembly voted for the impeachment of the governor however, 3 MCAs didn’t show up for the heated afternoon session to ouster the governor.

This comes after the Members of the County Assembly voted to impeach their governor. Governor Sambojas woes began when he was accused of gross misconduct by the MCAs.

However, the governor has said that he will petition the president to dissolve the county government assembly.

Mr Samboja and the MCAs have for long been embroiled in sharp disagreement which paralysed the implementation of the 2019/2020 budget.

The disagreement started in August 2019 when the MCAs slashed the budget allocated for the Executive and set aside Sh833 million for the Ward Development Fund.

Many politicians joined the mediation team to try to find an amicable solution to the problem facing the county but non of the it yielded fruits.

After all the mediation attempts failed, the MCAs were left with no option but to impeach the governor.
