Number of Kenyans who have died due to raging floods, Government confirms
The Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna on Thursday confirmed that 29 people have so far died due to the ever-increasing floods and landslides incidents as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc across the country.
Oguna who was addressing the press further revealed that a record six people have sustained injuries due to the flood menace.
The floods have not only claimed lives but also left behind a trail of infrastructure damages of unknown values, bridges and key roads in Mombasa, Kwale, Turkana, Garissa, Lamu, Marsabit, Mandera and Wajir have been rendered impassible.
“Rescue operations have been moved to the affected areas and appealed to those living in flood-prone areas to move to higher grounds,” said Oguna.
The 23 most affect counties are as follows.Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit, Turkana, Garissa, Lamu, Kwale, Isiolo, Samburu, Tana River, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Makueni, Kitui, Machakos, Busia, Kisumu,Homa Bay, Migori, Siaya, Baringo, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet and Trans-Nzoia.
However, Oguna stated that the rains will not hinder the ongoing national examinations in primary and secondary schools.
“The Government has put measures in place to ensure that all candidates in the affected areas sit for the exams,” he added.
