How to be Successful in Life
We all desire success so much that we would buy it if we could. Success comes with so much privilege, satisfaction, fame, power, money and peace of mind in life.
However, a good question would be what is success to you? At what point would you consider yourself to be successful? Success is different for everyone and so is the level of success. For some, they will deem themselves successful when they have lots of money to spend, save or both, for others it could be a happy marriage, family and a thriving career
Whatever your definition of success, the path is the same and so you have to pretty much take almost the same if not all necessary steps to land yourself in success.
Believe in yourself
Not believing in yourself is as destructive as a negative attitude. Start today to trust yourself, your decisions, your abilities and you will see the results. Look back at your past accomplishments to motivate you into believing in yourself even more.
Self-believe is the foundation of your success in life. There will be times in your life when you will feel so down, doubt your capability, when you will want to give up on yourself but don’t keep moving forward no matter the speed. Slowly, things will fall into place.
Build your confidence and believe that you can take on anything thrown at you even if you don’t know how to at first. Trust that you will figure it out eventually.
Invest in yourself
This is probably the best advice you will ever get, invest in yourself. Start by developing a learning habit, this is will greatly improve your knowledge. Take on courses to help with your career, invest in your grooming because your image matters a lot, learn about money and put into practice what you have learnt in order to put your finances on order and don’t forget to invest in your future.
The best advice I have ever received so far is Read, Read and Read even more and if you are not keen on reading you can watch videos and listen to audio books. Plan to read at least one book every month.
Plan and Set Goals
Not setting goals and planning on how to achieve each of them is like going on a trip without knowing your destination. Call yourself for a meeting, set your long term and short terms goals and set a plan on how to attain them. Having a clear plan that is achievable is key to keeping you motivated. Your goals must be achievable, must be realistic, must be measurable and be timely. Assess your progress every so often to keep track.
Take Calculated Risks
Don’t just take risks but take on calculated risks. It is dangerous to takes risks blindly. As Mark Zuckerberg famously stated, “The biggest risk is not taking any risk. In a world that’s changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.”
Assess the risks and see what you stand to gain, will it be more impactful and beneficial to you and will the results be worth the risks? Do not be afraid, for every risk that you take, there can only be success or failure that you can learn from.
Know your worth
Knowing your worth will greatly help you know what to accept and what to reject. Especially in a business where you sell services, it is easy to down price when you don’t know what your time and efforts are worth. Knowing your worth and value is greatly determined by how you view yourself and the attitude you have of yourself.
Adopt a Positive Attitude
When they say attitude is everything, it is true it is everything. You cannot do something great when you have a negative attitude towards it, be it a job, a career, marriage, relationships and life.
To achieve a positive attitude, practice affirmations, focus on the good only but learn from your failures, find humor in bad difficult situations, surround yourself with positive like-minded people and turn that negative self-talk into positive ones.
Adopt a positive attitude in all areas of your life and see the changes; they will be nothing but great.
Avoid Distractions
My biggest distraction is the social media. This really lowers my productivity.
Find the distractions in your life and get rid of them. Anything that hinders you from focusing on your goals and achieving them is a distraction. Of course, besides your kids and family.
Distractions can be bad company of friends that you keep, addictions, emotional distractions such as toxic relationships, multitasking, Social media and just about anything that keeps our focus and attention away from our goals. Deal with your distractions head-on as soon as they arise.
Loose the fear and insecurity
Fear of failure is as real as fear of success. Some people have just been so accustomed to failure that the thought of success scares the shit of out them. Stepping out of your comfort zone is really scary but learning how to overcome and planning how to overcome beforehand is key. Allow yourself to feel the fear until you get used to also works. Visualize your obstacles and think positively about them, it will ease the fear and insecurity. If you don’t have the motivation to be successful then let fear of failure to be your motivation as well.
Live healthy
You got to take care of your health. This should be in your list of priority. It is impossible to chase success from the walls of the hospital or in pain and discomfort so invest in your health; eat healthy, exercise and take regular medical checkups.
However, I believe that success should be all round in that you do not neglect any other area of your life to chase success. I see many people neglecting their families, kids, their health and other important areas of their lives in the name of looking for success. Success feels great yes, it makes you feel important, happy and accomplished and who wouldn’t want that in their lives but be ready to pay the price as well.
The sooner you start to define your success and work towards achieving the sooner you can start living that desirable life. So stop making excuses and start now, the time is now.
