Top 10 richest counties in Kenya 2019
According to the promulgated 2010 Kenyan constitution, in Article 140 and chapter 11
(1) There shall be a county government for each county, consisting of a county assembly and a county executive.
(2) Every county government shall decentralize its functions and the provision of its services to the extent that it is efficient and practicable to do so.
Through this, a report titled Gross County Product (GCP) 2019 realest a report of the top richest and top poorest counties in Kenya. The report funded by the World Bank. It tracked the monetary measure of the market value of all the final goods and services produced in each of the 47 counties, with a view to providing a picture of the economic structure and relative size of the economy for each county.
From this year’s data, Nairobi is more than three-and-a-half times larger in economic terms than Nakuru, the second-richest county in Kenya.
This is the first ever comprehensive study by Kenya National Bureau of statistics (KNBS) of counties’ wealth provides a measure of how much each region contributed to the national cake as at the end of 2017.
Agriculture, the Kenya’s economic backbone remained a key driver of growth in most counties including Nakuru, Kiambu, Meru, Bungoma, Kakamega and Nyeri.

- Kisumu 2.9 %

- Uasin-Gishu 2.3 %
From the data, the counties that contribute the least to national wealth include;
- Isiolo 0.2 %
- Samburu 0.3 %
- Lamu 0.4%
- Marsabit 0.5%
- Tana River 0.5 %
- Mandera 0.5 %
- Wajir 0.5 %
- Garissa 0.6 %
- West Pokot 0.7 %
- Taita Taveta 0.5 %
