Senator Sakaja files petition to cancel Mary Wambui’s appointment for NEA chair
Former Othaya MP Mary Wambui will yet again have to overcome another obstacle as she awaits to occupy the National Employment Authority office as the chairperson.
After receiving backlash from the public over the appointment due to her age, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has also filed a petition to cancel Wambui’s appointment.
Sakaja who is credited with the formulation of the NEA, on Thursday said Wambui’s appointment contravenes Section 10(2) of the National Employment Authority Act and the vision.
“I have confidence that she has the ability to serve Kenyans in a different capacity but not as the vision carrier and chairperson of the NEA,” Sakaja said.
“The leadership of such an institution would need a vision carrier with knowledge of the subject matter and with the passion to drive it, especially at its inception,” he added.
The act states that the qualified chairperson of the board should have at least seven years of experience in human resource management or its equivalent.
The NEA was to establish constituency job centres where unemployed youths can register their details which include; qualifications, career aspirations.
NEA was also meant to offer soft skill training.
However, Wambui had earlier hit back at critics saying she is well vast to carry the vision of NEA.
