February is the month of love and today being valentines day, you don’t have to worry about being single again. This comes as facebooks set out to launch its dating feature to more markets.
The app has been available in selected countries for less than half a year, attempting to wrest some of the market shares from leaders Tinder and Bumble, each of which has tens of millions of users. Facebook Dating launched in the US in September as part of the existing Facebook phone app.
However, users were disappointed as the launch set for the European market was delayed. This comes after a last-minute visit by the Irish Data Protection Commission who claimed that they received the information and documentation of the feature 10 days to the launch.
The feature, a potential competitor to dating giant Tinder, uses Facebook’s data on a person to show common friends and interests on their dating profile.
The Facebook feature can also pull in posts from Instagram which is a Facebook-owned company. Other dating apps such as Tinder and Bumble – can also use Facebook login features to build the user’s profile.
The company had made special efforts to ensure the safety, security and privacy of the users considering that the company already had a lot of information about people’s lives, however, photos and videos and links cannot be sent through the dating messaging service.
The app is only available to over-18s only and does not – unless requested – try to match users with their existing Facebook friends.
