Muchiri Mike’s distress call on X
Kenyan netizens were startled on Thursday afternoon after a well-known content creator tweeted about his arrest.
As Kenyans waited for the highly anticipated presidential address from State House, Mike was picked up by police in Nairobi’s Kasarani estate.
“THEY ARE ARRESTING ME AT KASARANI!” Wrote Muchiri on the popular social network.
The creative TikToker tweeted again shortly assuring the public of his safety.
“I have a multitude of lawyers with me. I’m ok,” said Mike.
Netizens were taken by surprise by his arrest, left wondering about the charges and where he was being held.
His arrest swiftly ended his Instagram live session, where he was cut midway while interacting with his fans.
Kenyans on X responded to the news with expressions of displeasure towards the government.
“Sa wewe surely you can’t even harm an insect, what have you done?” asked @iamedro
“What’s wrong with these people jameni!!” added @EveMaina.
“How do you arrest someone for helping in translating the Finance Bill to different languages for citizens to understand it??!! #FreeMikeMuchiri” says comedian Idhrissou.
Nakuru Mayor termed it an arbitrary arrest, similar to many witnessed recently.
“Enough is enough! They are not just arresting you but doing it unlawfully. Arbitrary Arrest!” said the tweep.
Muchiri Mike’s fiery criticism of the government
Mike’s critical stance against the government is believed to be the main reason for his arrest.
The Kenyan creative has used his platform to air his views against the now-unpopular Kenya Kwanza regime.
Mike was also a constant figure in the Gen Z protests, famed for their transformative impact on Kenya’s political space.
The content creator and activist also attended the recent Shujaaz Concert on SabaSaba Day organized in honor of fallen young protestors.

In a now-familiar fashion, Kenyan Gen Zs and the legal fraternity are mobilizing support to secure his release.
His arrest follows the horrifying events narrated by KSL student leader Joshua Okayo, who was recently unlawfully abducted from his residence in Ongata Rongai.
