Former Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo has come out guns blazing to deny media reports that he has pledged support for Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 Presidential candidature. Kabogo was responding to a report published on a local news outlet that erroneously claimed that Kabogo had pressurized President Uhuru Kenyatta to honor the Jubilee alliance’s pre-election deal.
“We want to make it clear that as people from Mt Kenya, we are not political conmen. We promised in 2013 that we support President Kenyatta for 10 years and Ruto for another 10 years. Our agreement still stands,” Mkenya News purported to have quoted Kabogo.
The quick rebuttal from the former county boss came in form of a tweet where he dismissed the report and issued a caveat against bloggers, urging them to refrain from writing false reports about him.
“Fake! This will not help you…, fight your wars elsewhere without involving me. You want an interview come to me,” Kabogo wrote.
Since his ouster from the Kiambu apex seat, Kabogo has kept a low profile, often avoiding to be dragged into political discussions. He has been on record as urging elected leaders to do away with political noise and instead focus on service delivery. He has also made pronouncements revealing his likelihood of being on the presidential ballot during the election year.
