Lucy came to the limelight after one Osama Otero started a tweet urging Kenyans to rally behind less privileged children who could not meet their school necessities. Otero urged Kenyans to start the fund drive by sparing as little as Sh600 to buy shoes or bags for needy school-going children.
The tweet by Osero prompted Lucy to respond in the comment section by asking him to start with her since she needed to raise extra cash for her girls’ school uniforms but the laundry job she was doing could not allow her.

However, Otero’s response was what irked netizens, Otero told her to sell the phone she was using to tweet and buy the kids the spare uniform,and use the surplus to buy a cheaper phone.

Otero later apologised but netizens had already ‘lynched’ him for what they termed as a bad response to someone who genuinely asked for help.
