The Duke of Sussex has reaffirmed his position, and that of his wife Meghan, that their minds are fixed on stepping back from their current placement as senior royals in the Queen’s Court to lead independent lives. Speaking on Sunday, Harry expressed disappointment that his hope to serve the queen without public resources had proven impossible and thus he has no option but step back.
The Prince was, however, quick to clarify that they were not walking away from the kingdom. “The UK is my home and a place that I love, that will never change,” he stated. He also stressed that he will always maintain the utmost respect for the Queen, whom he referred to as his ‘commander-in-chief.’

Yesterday’s speech was the very first one for the Prince to go public about the matter since the couple let out their plans of breaking away a month ago. The couple had earlier participated in a finalization deal involving the Queen, royal staff and themselves on Saturday, where they settled on an agreement that Harry and Meghan will cease being formal representatives of the monarch. They will consequently withdraw their HRH titles and retract their royal duties.
In the new living arrangements, the couple revealed they will be relocating to Canada but will keep their UK home close to their hearts and will be making occasional visits.
