Boniface Mwangi’s publishes social media posts with heavy references to death
Kenyans were shocked after Boniface Mwangi’s suicidal posts surfaced online at the weekend.
The thought-provoking posts were unusual for the prominent government critic, who typically projects strength in his confrontations with the state.
In a distressing short clip, Mr. Mwangi is depicted as a dead person being prepared for burial.
The clip also features Mwangi’s voice in the background, urging people to reflect on their actions while they are still alive, as these actions shape their legacy.
“Remember all of us will die, and if we die, we won’t take our bank balances or titles with us,” Boniface says in part.
The viral video was accompanied by a Facebook post in which he justified suicide. See Boniface Mwangi’s post below:
Kenyans react to Boniface Mwangi’s posts
Mwangi’s posts were instantly met with mixed reactions from Kenyans. A section of Kenyan netizens immediately started tracking the founder of the Sema Ukweli movement, worried about his safety.
Renowned podcaster Makarios Ouma, also known as Mwafreeka, dedicated a special segment of his “Iko Nini” podcast to exploring the question, “Where is Boniface Mwangi?” and speculated about his well-being.
The opinions were, however, highly divided on social media. A section of Kenyans on X accused Boniface of staging the whole thing for sympathy.
Boniface has been under fire for his involvement in the recent governance protests in Kenya spearheaded by Gen Z.
He has been accused of being a secret government agent paid to sabotage the demonstrations from within.
Recently during the #OccupyParliamnet protests, the activist was lynched by angry youth when he tried to get protestors off the streets as a precaution.
According to Boniface, notorious armed goons had been dispatched to hurt peaceful protestors.
Some protesters viewed Boniface’s action as a deliberate attempt to undermine the momentum of the protests and instill fear among the demonstrators.
Njeri Mwangi breaks silence on Boniface Mwangi
Boniface’s wife Njeri Mwangi came out on Monday morning to address his absence from social media.
The female activist and co-founder of PAWA254 posted the following message on her X account:
“POL🙏🏾 Friends and comrades, my apologies for the unanswered calls and unresponded texts. Pls forgive and bear with me. We feel your utmost pure outpouring of love and support. We appreciate all of it. Thank you”
Although the tweet has provided some relief, confusion persists regarding Mwangi’s motives behind posting cryptic messages and deactivating his social media accounts.
Some suggest that it may be a strategy to prevent state operatives from tracking him before the #NaneNaneMarch protests scheduled for Thursday.
