Meet a Kenyan in the organising committee for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar
Qatar will host the 2022 World Cup, a first for a middle-east country and Kenya has just been roped into the awaiting history.
The football bonanza will be run by the Qatar Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy(QSCDL), a committee that has one Kenyan working there.
The Kenyan Mr John Ngururwe arrived in Qatar in 2009 with high hopes of bettering his life in the Gulf country.
Ngururwe first got a job as a security guard, but lady luck winked at him when Qatar won the bid to host the 2022 Fifa World Cup. He was incorporated in the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.
The QSCDL formed the Qatar community football league, the league has 40 teams provides local community members with a chance to compete in an affordable and competitive league.
Ngururwe has encouraged and inspired many Kenyans to keep true to their dreams amidst all challenges facing them.
“I was here when the bid was announced and now I can see the dream come true. As Kenyans, we are football lovers and now we have the biggest opportunity in the world to be in the country that the World Cup is being organised,” said Ngururwe.
Ngururwe who is nicknamed Oshee is the founder of FC Kenya that plays in the league.
The team is mostly made up of construction workers but also has security, hospitality and transport workers. They train once a week on Friday at 6 am.
