Kenyans on X deep mistrust of Aoko’s aide
While the aide has dutifully updated supporters throughout Aoko’s arrests and detention, Kenyans have expressed concern over this faceless individual.
Until recently, some netizens suspected the aide might be a government operative attempting to deceive Aoko’s supporters into believing the blogger was safe.
According to the skeptical users, sophisticated officers from the country’s security organs had gained access to Aoko Atieno’s account and have been doing her posts.
Some of the blogger’s strong supporters have even claimed to recognize her handwriting, figuratively expressing their familiarity with her writing style.
One user @Wesely_Kibande wrote: “This handwriting siamini. Haikai aide wa Aoko. I’ll only believe nikiona video of proof of life.”
Wesely and others demanded to hear Aoko’s voice to ascertain that she was alive.
Aoko reassures Kenyans that she’s safe
Following weeks of intense speculations about her safety, Aoko was forced to directly address her followers on X.
In a lengthy Friday morning post, Aoko confirmed that the aide had the permission of her family to post using her account.
Aoko also assured her followers that she continues to take strong measures to protect her X account from authorized access.
“The person who’s been posting on my account has/had my unreserved permission and that of my Family. I however assure you, they got me but not my account. The first thing my aide does when I emergency dial, or is unreachable, is to change our passwords,” said Aoko in a statement.

The blogger explained that precautions taken for her account not only protect her but also the identities of her treasured sources.
Aoko acknowledged the skepticism, attributing it to the deep mistrust of the government by Kenyans.
The prominent blogger thanked her supporters for making noise and agitating for her release, saying “Your clamor, fervor, noise, agitation, and prayers kept air in my lungs and blood in my heart.”
Maverick Aoko has also promised to expose all details surrounding her lengthy disappearance when she gets better.
