Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has stepped up his battle against newly-appointed University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama. Magoha has moved to court seeking to challenge recently issued orders that reinstated Prof. Kiama into the position after the latter had sought revocation of Magoha’s directive that had quashed the appointment.
In his case documents, Magoha argues that the orders that Kiama secured on Monday impeded justice and thus stresses that Prof. Isaac Mbeche should take up the seat.

Speaking through lawyer Evans Monari, Magoha faulted Kiama for what he termed as ‘misleading the court through misrepresentation of facts’ to obtain unwarranted favors. He added that the wrangles have since paralyzed key administrative functions at the institution.

“It is critical that the Council exercises its supervisory powers over the university to ensure that Prof Mbeche continues to operate, pending proper substantive appointment of a VC or the determination of this suit,” submitted Mr. Monari.

He pleaded with the court to suspend the orders issued by Lady Justice Maureen Onyango on January 20. It will be interesting to see how the tussle between Magoha and Kiama settles.
