List of East African Community (EAC) Member Countries
The East African was first formed in 1967 after a long period of integration during colonial rule.
Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda previously had common institutions such as East African Airways which was run jointly by the 3 states.
The Community was dissolved in 1977 mainly due to the ideological differences between capitalist Kenya and socialist Tanzania.
It was reinstated in 2000 following the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community in Arusha on 30 November 1999.
The following are the member countries of the East African Community (EAC)
1. Tanzania

- Tanzania is a founder member of EAC alongside Kenya and Uganda.
- Tanzania hosts the East African Community Headquarters in Arusha.
2. Kenya

- Kenya is a founder member of EAC alongside Tanzania and Uganda.
- The current summit chairperson is Kenya’s president Honorable Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta.

3. Uganda

- Uganda is a founder member of EAC alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
- Uganda shares the Lake Victoria waters with Kenya and Tanzania on its eastern and southern borders respectively.
4. Rwanda

- Rwanda is a landlocked country in East Africa.
- Rwanda became a full EAC in July 2007.
5. Burundi

- Burundi is a landlocked country in East Africa.
- Burundi became a full EAC in July 2007.
6. South Sudan

- South Sudan is a country in Central Africa that became independent in July 2011.
- South Sudan then joined the EAC in September 2016.
7. The Democratic Republic of the Congo

- The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a country in Central Africa.
- The DRC formally joins the EAC in July 2022.
