Inside Kairo’s feud with KRA
The Nyeri KRA office is facing intense scrutiny after prominent car dealer Khalif Kairo publicly accused them of maliciously undermining his businesses.
According to Kairo, the harassment has extended to social media where shadowy figures hiding under pseudo-accounts put threatening comments under his posts.
“A guy came to one of my posts and commented that he was going to use his friends in Nyeri to frustrate my company. The guy hides under a pseudo,” Kairo said in his video.
Following the threatening comment, Kairo received a surprise letter from KRA instructing him to take his tax records to its Nyeri outpost.
Kairo alleged that his detractor is his former associate who they disagreed with a while back. He accuses the unnamed individual of bribing officials at the KRA Nyeri offices to harass him in what appears like a revenge mission.
Kairo has disclosed that he and his former associate are embroiled in a heated legal battle, where he serves as a witness in multiple criminal cases against the associate.
While refraining from naming the individual responsible for his troubles, Kairo mentioned that the person had secured gag orders from the court, which prevented him from revealing their identity publicly.
The successful automotive entrepreneur also called out the KRA for unnecessarily disturbing his clients. Kairo reported that one of his clients was also harassed by the taxman on a different matter.
Khalif Kairo stands his ground against the taxman, insists that he runs a clean business
Khalif Kairo has come out strongly to defend his company which is reportedly under KRA’s radar.
While rubbishing what he terms as outrageous demands by the KRA, Kairo asserted that his business is compliant with all Kenyan tax laws and regulations.
“We’ve been paying our taxes. We do our PAYE every month, we do our withholding tax every month, and we import a lot of cars for so many people. There’s no single instance where Kai and Karo have been taken to court,” said Kairo.
Kairo also says that he has run his business for the last 9 years without a blemish, and a single raid at his offices.
“All my accounts are in order, but today I got a letter asking me to take all my tax records to Nyeri. The reason I am doing this video is to show you how people can frustrate you using corrupt government officials.”
The outspoken businessman also added that he does not fear sharing his tax records or business information publicly since he runs a clean business.
Kairo also threatened to relocate his businesses to another country, vowing not to cower to hopeless intimidation.
According to Kairo, his enemies are envious of his recent acquisition of Diamond Plaza where he intends to set up his new headquarters.
Kairo has refused to go to the KRA Nyeri office and dares his detractors to proceed and shut down his business. The businessman also appealed to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and other relevant agencies to come to his rescue.
