Kenyans on X Demand Mercy Mwangangi’s Appointment as Health PS

1. 1. 1. Dr. Mercy Mwangangi is a former Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Kenyan health ministry.
      2. The now-popular doctor rose to prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic.
      3. Dr. Mwangangi appeared in regular press briefings organized by the ministry to update Kenyans on the pandemic’s status.
      4. Alongside other officials like acting Director General Dr. Patrick Amoth, Ms. Mwangangi announced new infections and measures taken by the government to contain the virus.
      5. Dr. Mwangangi was also appointed as the chairperson of the Pumwani Hospital Board by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja in April last year.
      6. A section of Kenyans on X has called for her appointment as health PS following her excellent performance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mercy Mwangangi’s COVID-19 Pressers

More than 3 years after the COVID-19 pandemic, former health CS Mercy Mwangangi continues to receive outpouring of accolades from Kenyans.

The former University of Nairobi medicine student worked under Mutahi Kagwe who was the health cabinet minister.

Their press conferences displayed an efficient ministry working in unity to combat the then-ravaging little-known COVID-19 virus.

Dr. Mercy’s eloquence and soft-spoken nature won the hearts of many Kenyan viewers who religiously followed the ministry’s updates.

Initially handled by the cabinet minister himself, the press briefings were later delegated to two CAS Mwangangi, CAS Dr. Rashid Aman, and acting Director General Patrick Amoth.

The senior health officials helped the Cabinet Secretary communicate crucial information to help Kenyans as they faced the strange virus.

Kenyans would soon call for Dr. Mercy Mwangangi to address them daily about the virus.

According to widespread reports, Dr. Mwangangi had a strong grasp of the pulse of the country and was adept at communicating policy effectively.

Kenyans on X praise Dr. Mercy Mwangangi’s excellent work as health CAS

Midway into 2024, Kenyans still express gratitude for her service, with a section of them demanding her appointment as health PS.

The calls for Dr. Mwangangi’s appointment come amid serious instability in the current Kenya Kwanza administration.

President William Ruto recently dismissed his cabinet after days of protests driven by severe mismanagement of the country.

In line with the protestors’ demands, the president attempted a clean-up of his government starting from his cabinet.

Reports suggest that the president is now focusing on Principal Secretaries, who are also expected to undergo a significant shake-up.

Kenyans on X in particular had the following to say about Mercy Mwangangi’s possible return to Kenya’s health ministry:
