International Youth Day was celebrated worldwide, with young people around the globe coming together to mark the occasion.

Amid the celebrations, tension rose in Tanzania as authorities forcefully turned back buses full of youth.

The youth were reportedly heading to a Youth Day rally organized by Tanzania’s top opposition politicians including Tundu Lissu. Tundu and his associates were quickly arrested and the event thrown into confusion.

Reports indicate that the government was worried the event might lead to instability in the country, akin to the recent nationwide protests seen in Kenya.
