How to verify a Log Book before buying a locally used car in Kenya
So you are buying a locally used car. You have identified a seller, have test-driven and had your mechanic inspect the car; the seller has even shown you the log book.
You have done all the due diligence, the only thing left is to verify the authenticity of the logbook and ownership of the car. Follow these easy steps to stay safe and clear any doubts.
Verify car ownership
- Go to your M-Pesa menu
- Select ‘Lipa na M-PESA’
- Select ‘Buy Goods and Services’
- ‘Enter till number’: 2 0 2 9 9 4
- ‘Enter amount’: 940
- ‘Enter PIN’: Your four-digit secret PIN
- Confirm by selecting ‘OK’
After step 7 above, copy your Mpesa transaction code and Click Here.
You will be required to provide your Mpesa transaction code and some personal details such as your names, email and telephone contacts.
Once you submit, the car ownership details will be sent to the email you provided, an SMS message with the car details will also be sent to your phone number after a few minutes.
Compare the details sent to you on email with the ones on the Log Book.
