Kenyans travel to India for business, medical and leisure. Kenyans need a visa to travel to India. India Government has rolled out an e-visa service that allow applicants to apply and pay for visa to India online. You will need to have a Mastercard or VISA card to enable you to pay online.
Instructions for applying for an e-Visa to India
- e-Visa has 3 sub-categories i.e., e-Tourist visa, e-Business Visa and e-Medical visa.
- Applicants of the eligible countries/territories may apply online minimum 4 days in advance of the date of arrival
- International Travellers whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation , sight seeing , casual visit to meet friends or relatives, short duration medical treatment or casual business visit.
- Passport should have at least six months validity from the date of arrival in India. The passport should have at least two blank pages for stamping by the Immigration Officer.
- International Travellers should have return ticket or onward journey ticket,with sufficient money to spend during his/her stay in India
- The validity of e-Visa will be 60 days from the date of arrival in India.Double entry is permitted on e-Tourist Visa and e-Business Visa. Triple entry will be permitted on e-Medical Visa.
- Carry YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION CARD at the time of arrival in India. You can get this at City hall in Nairobi, Aga Khan hospital or at the Centre for Tropical and Travel Medicine near Adams Arcade opposite Nairobi Women hospital
- Additionally one more document depending upon the e-Visa type would also be required to be uploaded.
The documents required for India e-Visa are :
For e-Tourist Visa
- Scanned Bio Page (PDF format) of the passport showing the photograph and details
- The passport size photo in JPG format
For e-Medical Visa
- Scanned Bio Page of the passport (PDF format) showing the Photograph and Details
- Copy of Letter from the Hospital concerned in India on its letterhead
- The passport size photo in JPG format
For e-Business Visa
- Scanned Bio Page of the passport (PDF format) showing the Photograph and Details
- Copy of Business Card
- The passport size photo in JPG format
The India e-visa application process.
- Visit the website https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/Registration

- Fill the form, upload your passports, bio data page pdf, and your photo (JPEG), and make payments using your VISA card / Mastercard. The India E-visa fee is USD 80
- After the payment is confirmed you will received the E-visa on your email
- Print the e-visa and carry it on your travel to India. Remember to carry your Yellow Fever card too.
- Please confirm that your ETA status is shown as ‘GRANTED’ on the website prior to commencement of your journey. Applicants can track the status of their application online by clicking VisaStatus
