The Universities Academic Staff Union(UASU) has issued a 7-day strike notice because the government has failed to honour the Collective Bargain Agreement (CBA) signed on 28 October 2019.

The union stated that starting from January 20, the will down their tools if no CBA is honoured.

UASU chairman Ouma Muga K’olale stated that they have resolved to take the stand because the government has purposed to divert the budgetary allocations of the CBA for other purposes.

“It has come to our attention that the government has unilaterally decided to dishonour the CBA signed on 28th October 2019,” said K’olale.

“The government has decided to divert the budgetary allocations for the CBA to purposes of which it was not meant so as workers whose rights are fraudulently violated we have made a firm resolve to go on strike,” he added.

The unfulfilled 2017/2020 CBA involves Sh8.8 Billion.
