First African- China mobile internet economy summit held in Kenya
The first African-China internet economy summit was held in Nairobi, Kenya.
The summit was organized with the aim of discussing and exploring the milestones of internet connection in Africa. The summit was sponsored by the Chinese Tech firm, Techno which was one of the top 3 sponsors.
The technology giants in attendance included; Facebook, Google, Safaricom and MTN.
The summit attracted over 200 delegates from top organizations in the technology world and the telecommunication field.
During the summit, it emerged that there is an increase in the numbers of internet users from Africa. Just from the sub-Saharan Africa only, the numbers of internet users is expected to rise to 600 million users by 2025.
This is according to a report released by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association GSMA in July terming the region the fastest-growing number of users accessing the internet in the world.
Principal Secretary of ICT, Jerome Ochieng, Ambassador of the P.R.C to Kenya, Wu Peng, Chairman of China-Africa Fund for Industrial Cooperation also graced the summit.
