Residents of Kigum village, Uganda have seized the golden opportunity of locust menace and are now reaping big out of the locust invasion.

While the government authorities try to fight the epidemic, residents of Kigum village seem to have turned it to their own benefit and are now eating the locusts.
It is reported that a swarm of locusts invaded Gogo and Abudere villages Wednesday evening. But even as residents have found ways of managing the menace, they are still decrying for the government to come up with ways of tackling the epidemic.

Residents expressed joy, saying that to them, locusts have been a source of food from way back.

“Nzige wamekuwa chanzo cha chakula tangu zamani. Alisema kuwa pia alilazimika kuwapata ili waongeze lishe yake kwa sababu ya uhaba wa chakula kutokana na mavuno duni mwaka jana. Anabainisha kuwa wadudu hao huchemshwa kwanza na kukaushwa kwenye jua kabla ya kukaanga na mafuta ya kupikia na kutumiwa.
“Tulipika wadudu hawa kwa kula. Zamani ilikuwa wanapokuja basi wanakamatwa, huchemshwa, hukaushwa kabla ya kutumiwa na watoto na hata watu wazima. Hivi sasa tunacho chakula kidogo kwa sababu ya mavuno duni mwaka jana kutokana na mvua zilizorejea na kuharibu mazao yetu yote, ” Christine Abalo, a resident of Gogo village reafirmed in an interview with a Ugandan media.
