LIVE UPDATES: Chaos erupt at Magadi Road

Chaos has erupted Magadi Road after a protest by the Multimedia University students after one of them was allegedly hit and killed by a speeding vehicle.

Police have been called in to contain the protesting students.

“We want to tell the Ongata Line Sacco that this is the last time they will harass us. The issues of overcharging students and offloading people far away from the prescribed stopover must end. He who has ears let him hear,” said one of the student.

Last week a first-year student is said to have been hit by a fast-moving matatu Magadi Road.

10:40 am: Three students have been arrested by the police. Students are engaged in running battles with the police.

Nimo Sheikh one of the university student leaders is among the three students who have been arrested.

The police have been patrolling the institution, they have opened fire in the sky and also used teargas to disperse the students. The students are also throwing stones.

10:49 am: The number of police officers at the scene increases as more police vans troop the area. Five officers have managed to access the Multi-Media University compound. They have managed to lock the varsity’s main gate.

10:52 am: Students have been pushed closer to their dormitories and none of them is along the Magadi Road. Calm has been restored and traffic is easing up on the road.

10:55 am: The three students who were arrested have been loaded in one of the police vans and allegedly whisked away to a nearby police station.

Kenyans online are demanded for the unconditional release of Kenya University Students Organisation(KUSO) chair Nimo Sheikh and her five colleagues who were arrested early Monday morning over the chaos that erupted at MultiMedia University.
