Botswana re-elects President Mokgweetsi Masisi
The people of Botswana have re-elected incumbent President Mokgweetsi Masisi of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).
Masisi won the general election by securing 29 seats in the National Assembly which represents 51 per cent of total votes
His victory was announced by the chief justice on Friday.
“Although vote counting is still ongoing, the numbers of parliament seats attained so far by the BDP obliges me to declare Mokgweetsi Masisi as the elected President of Botswana,” said Chief Justice Terrence Rannowane.
The 58-year-old Masisi has been on the frontline to combat corruption and also made it easier for small scale businesses to thrive in Botswana by reducing bureaucracy in setting up such businesses.
