Benefits of detoxifying your body
There is this new trend in town of ladies carrying a lot of green substances in water bottles and consuming a lot of chia seeds drinks in the name of detoxifying their bodies. The question is, do you need to detoxify your body? What are the benefits of detoxifying?
The CDC reports that hundreds of chemicals are present in our bodies. Research has shown that many of these chemicals can disrupt our immune, endocrine, nervous, and reproductive systems, and can be linked to the following health problems.
Some of these health problems include asthma, fatigue, skin problems, bloating, indigestion and digestion issues and congestion.
The two main sources of toxins that affect the body daily are,
Environmental Toxins: These are toxins outside of the body. They include things like pesticides, carbon monoxide, and other chemicals people come in contact with daily.
Metabolic Toxins: These are toxins on the inside of the body. This can happen through a variety of mechanisms, but the main thought here is something that has been eaten and absorbed into the cells through digestion.
Although our bodies naturally tackle the toxins we encounter every day, sometimes our bodies can become overburdened over time. A temporary, short-term detox and reset might be exactly what is needed!
Purification, or detoxification, provides your body (specifically your liver, kidneys, and intestines) with additional support to metabolize and expel these toxins and minimize your weight. You’re cleansing your body and helping it rebuild itself from the inside out.
Some of the benefits of detoxifying your body include;
- Restores balance to the body’s systems
The body is a complex group of intertwining systems that work together to achieve optimal health. The nervous system, digestive system, and hormonal system work together to keep you healthy and reproductive.
Detoxing helps you achieve a good balance to the body and makes its organs function efficiently.
- Improves digestive health
When detoxing, the body is getting rid of the excess waste stored in the gut and fat cells. The primary way this happens is through the increase in fibre that comes with detoxing. The fibre helps cleanse the colon and drag out any of the toxins that get built up over time.
It also improves the functionality of the liver and kidneys that are responsible for processing the foods that you eat.
In this way, the body will be able to better absorb the vitamins and nutrients from your food.
- Clearer skin
Environmental and diet-based toxins can have very visible results on the largest organ of the body, the skin.
Detoxifying the body can help with acne, strengthen nails and hair, and will help provide a natural, healthy glow. As toxins leave the body through the skin, a slight increase in acne or even patchiness to the skin is common.
