Where is Maverick Aoko?
Kenya’s X network is riddled with speculation after active tweep Aoko Otieno suddenly disappeared from the platform.
Aoko has attracted a large audience in the past few days as she exposed the underhand tactics used by the state allegedly to silence critics.
From manipulative treatment to sheer brute force by police and detectives, Ms. Aoko gave a blow-by-blow of her arrest and detention.
The unrepentant Aoko still sustained criticism against top state officers.
In her now-deleted tweets, for instance, the blogger alleged that Defense Minister Soipan Tuya receives undue favor from the president because of their reportedly close relationship.
Aoko accused Hon. Tuya of influencing her arrest and harassment by police. Her tweets prompted the DCI to take action, leading to her arrest and arraignment on charges related to the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act.
Aoko is now reportedly missing after her account was unexpectedly deactivated. Efforts to find her are underway on social media as the #FreeAoko hashtag makes a swift comeback.
