Three war rockets are reported to have hit a region near the US embassy in Baghdad, Iraq’s capital Tuesday morning. According to reports gathered by a popular global news agency, the attack happened at the high-security Green zone where major government offices and diplomatic facilities sit. No casualties had been reported by the time of going to press.
The attack comes in the wake of deepening rivalry between the US and Islamic region following the bloody elimination of Iranian leader Qasem Soleimani by the US forces earlier in the month. Soleimani, who was revered as a general, headed Iran’s Revolutionary Guards’ elite Quds Force and was killed at Baghdad International Airport on January 3 early in the year in a US forces attack dispatched by President Donald Trump.

A few days after the attack, Tehran hit back by firing missiles at a couple of US military bases in Iraq. US government released an official statement indicating that no casualties were experienced, a stand that was later contradicted by military reports which asserted that at least 11 troops were seriously injured.
