Celebrated Gikuyu musician Samuel Muchoki popularly known as Samidoh has opened up on his life journey to stardom.
In an interview with Betty Kyalo on Up-close with Betty the musician shared how he together with his family struggled to make ends meet after the sudden death of his father.
“I came from a humble background, life was not easy my dad died when I was very young. So when he died, we were kicked out of my father’s home. After we were chased from our home, the little money my mum got for pension we bought with it a piece of land in Nyanadarua,” he narrated.
Samidoh’s mother worked as a peasant and would also take on odd jobs to fend for the family. But as life would have it, it proved difficult forcing the young musician to drop out of school.
“Life was not that easy, at class seven I had to drop out of school. Then I was hired as a herds boy for sh 300 per month,” he recalled.
His friend’s mother would, later on, come to his rescue offering to stay with and educate him. He later went on to write his KCSE exams in 2008.

Fast forward, after the 29-year-old cleared High School, things changed for the worst as he failed to land a job.
‘Life really got bad to the extent that I said I would approach my area DC in Nakuru and ask him for a job. I did exactly that . . . he asked me what I could do professionally, and I told him I wanted to be a cop. He asked me to run for a distance alongside other job-seekers, and I came second in the race. That is how he used his powers to help me join the disciplined forces,”
He would later go on to launch his career in 2016 recording his first song.
“I started singing in 2016, that year I came to Nairobi and recorded my first song and since then my career took off.”
The police constable is a father of two, during the interview, he disclosed to Betty that he met his wife while in High school.
“We met in Highschool, I grew up in a family of boys and I did not know how to approach a lady. So when I said hi! And she responded I was relieved and we took it from there. I have ever had an ex, she is the only lad
