5 simple snacks to make with your children
A few days ago, Education CS George Magoha, blamed the parents for the poor upbringing of their children. He urged them to spend time with their children and assign them chores in the homes to help shape them better
The CS had a point when he said that. We know have kids who cannot even make their own food or even bed just because they were not taught how to do that hence churning out unfunctional adults to society.
Children should be taught on the basic skill of life especially when they are on holidays. If you can afford to pay for the cooking lessons, that’s just fine but you can bond over baking time.
This gives you the opportunity to know your child and also impart a skill or two in then. That being said here are some simple recipes of snacks that you can try to make with your child over this festive season.
Mandazi
Prepare the dough by mixing sugar, eggs, milk and margarine into the flour then knead the dough. You can also add lemon and cinnamon to the mixture to give it a better taste.
Omelettes
Beat eggs into a bowl add salt and pepper. Mix it with ham, onion, tomatoes, capsicum and red pepper, then fry it on a pan.
Black bean muffins
Blend together a can of black beans, cocoa powder, honey, oats, Greek yoghurt and baking powder until smooth. Pour into a muffin tray and bake for 18-20 minutes.

Apple pancakes
Sauté chopped apple with cinnamon until soft then combine with raisins and add to pancake batter and make stackable mini pancakes.
Homemade cereal bars
Mix together peanut butter and honey in a pot and warm over low heat until runny. Mix in cereal of choice then pour onto a flat dish lined with parchment paper. You can add toasted oats or coconut flakes and dried fruit for added texture. Press flat and refrigerate then cut into squares.
