Common mistakes that you make with your skin in your 20s
In your early 20s, you kind of go a lot going on for you. You are just trying to discover yourself and probably trying to make a name and a life for yourself.
The sad thing is that the last thing at this time is to care for your skin hence you end up making these terrible decisions that would adversely affect your skin in the long run.
For a beautiful, glowing and flawless skin, you have to put in the work and start early. This just doesn’t happen overnight.
Starting in your mid to late 20s, you start to lose collagen in your skin, this leads to less plumpness or fullness of the skin over time. Your 20s is a great time to start making global changes that will help your body and skin stay healthy.
Here are some of the mistakes that you are making that you need to put an end to immediately.
- Not using sunscreen
Wearing sunscreen is one of the best things you can do while in your 20s.
It’s the premier anti-ageing serum. It helps to prevent discolouration, loss of collagen, less elasticity of the skin and, of course, skin cancer. So instead of trying to treat those things later with lasers, creams, peels, stick to sunscreen for the win.
- Not washing your face after a long day
You might have gotten away with going to bed without washing your face when you were a teenager, but that doesn’t work anymore when you’re in your 20s.
Always make sure you are washing off your makeup at night before bed.
Cosmetics can trap bacteria, leading to breakouts, as well as trapping free radicals that can lead to premature ageing and discolouration.
This rule is paramount to those who don’t wear makeup. Not doing so can lead to breakouts and acne scarring.
- Forgetting to moisturize your skin
Just because your skin looks great in your 20s doesn’t mean you should skip moisturizer. Using a moisturizer can help to balance your skin’s oils and help your skin maintain its barrier function.
Moisturizing prevents skin flaking and cracking. All these do occur as the skin becomes so dry.
- Using many products
There is always the tendency to keep trying out new product, hence you end up using a lot of different skin products.
Using too many products can lead to skin irritation or cause certain products to lose effectiveness since they’re not meant to be used in combination with other products.
Start with the basics: Make sure you have a good daily protective sunscreen and a moisturizer.
Change products when need arises and stick to that particular brand.
- Popping pimples on the face
When popping pimples, people tend to drive more bacteria into their skin, leading to more inflammation and an increased risk of hyperpigmentation and scarring.
This damage that you do during this period can end up leaving lasting effects on your skin. Keep your hands off your face.
