5 Simple steps to follow when creating a meal plan
In a study conducted earlier on in the year, Kenyan women were ranked as the most hard working women in the corporate world. As a result of this, most career women do have crazy work schedules such that they barely find time cook for there families.
This article is about helping women to balance work and family as meal times are the most important sessions in every family.
You can enjoy warm, good home food and save on costs by following these simple steps.
- Set aside time to plan for the meals before the week begins
Always set aside time to plan for your meals before the week begins.
This gives you ample time to go shopping for what you may need during the preparation process.
2. Consider who you are planning meals for
Considering who you are planning the meals for helps you save a lot of time and you are able to know how exactly to go about.
It influences the type of meals you choose, number of meals and how fast the left overs are consumed.
3. Take inventory of your fridge and pantry
This is important because, it helps you to plan for meals based on what you already have in there.
This also helps you to clear the pantry leaving it less crowded and it also saves on costs.
4. Leave room for leftovers
In my opinion, planning for leftovers is the KEY. It helps conquer the three ultimate goals of meal planning:
- Reduce food waste – eat the food you already made, this reduces the chances of food getting spoiled.
- Save time – less cooking, more eating homemade leftovers or meal prepped meals.
- Save money, You don’t have to guy buying ingredients again.
5. Check your calendar for events and activities during the week
This step is important because:
- You can avoid preparing more food than necessary if a meal is offered at an event or if there’s a lunch meeting during the week.
- You can plan to prepare a full meal or freezer meal well in advance if you know there won’t be enough time to cook on a certain evening.
- You can plan meals around extracurricular activities and school events, or anything else you’ve got going on.
