Governor Mike Sonko summoned by EACC again
Flamboyant Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been summoned yet again by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over false information in his self-declaration form of 2017.
The ethics police want Sonko to appear before them at the Integrity Center on November 5, 2019.
“The commission would like you to respond to these allegations and record a statement regarding the same. To this end, you are required to appear at the EACC headquarters integrity centre, Nairobi, on November 5 at 10 am to facilitate investigations,” reads the letter from the EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak.
According to insider information, Sonko could be probed about court convictions that were not declared in his declaration form when he contested for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2017.
If found guilty, Sonko risks a five-year jail term or Sh5 million fine or both.
The first-time governor has, however, denied the allegations terming his latest woes as mere witch hunt perpetrated by his competitors.
He also hit back at the media for speculating the cause of his latest summon by EACC and also tabled copies of how clean he is in matters court cases.
“Githeri media at it again. First I received a bribe of Sh20m. Now I have more than 10 pending cases in court. Why did the DCI clear me to vie in 2010 (MP), 2013 (Senator) and 2017(Governor),” said Sonko.
