Panic grips Kisumu over confirmed cholera outbreak
Fear has enveloped the lakeside city of Kisumu after the Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) confirmed a cholera outbreak.
The residents are in a panic because the announcement comes in amidst paralysis in the public hospitals due to ongoing boycott by health staff due to unpaid salaries.
On Monday, September, 23, two people died while four others were admitted to Gita sub-county hospital over suspected dysentery outbreak in Kajulu, Kisumu county.
“Two people succumbed to diarrhoea two weeks ago. We are trying to manage the situation but there could be more people who are affected,” said Mr Chrispinus Makokha a Clinical officer at Gita sub-county hospital.
