North Imenti lawmaker Rahim Dawood has claimed that Members of Parliament should not be paid since their positions are for public service and not monetary fulfilment.
The MP even vowed that he can lead by example so as to cut down the huge wage bill. However, he suggested that they should be given a small allowance to help them move around
“We spend very few hours in Parliament and others even make technical appearances. All elected leaders should be servants of the people and not seek to enrich themselves,” said Mr Dawood.
While serving as a Councillor in the former Meru Municipal Council, Dawood donated his entire salary to the poor.
