Mariga cleared by IEBC to run for Kibra seat
Footballer-cum- politician McDonald Mariga will participate in the Kibra parliamentary by-elections.
The IEBC dispute tribunal has cleared the Jubilee candidate saying he is indeed a registered voter.
“It is our finding that the complainant was duly registered as a voter,” IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati said.
Mariga’s candidature for the seat was rejected by Kibra Returning Officer Beatrice Muli on claims that his name was missing in the voters’ register.
However, the former footballer petitioned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission over the invalidation.
The Kibra seat was left vacant after the untimely demise of former MP Kenneth Okoth. Mariga will now face 23 other candidates for the seat.
