Kasmuel McOure Unfazed After Losing 20K Followers Amid Sellout Allegations

Kasmuel’s unusual attempts to court politicians attract harsh criticism

Until recently, Gen Z activist Kasmuel McOure enjoyed significant popularity both online and in the streets for his advocacy of good governance.

At the height of the #RejectFinanceBill2024 protests, McOure emerged as one of the most eloquent voices earning public recognition.

The influential young activist dominated the streets and media stations ‘injecting’ the good governance message and professing the demands of Kenya’s Gen Z, the group behind the protests.

Rallying under McOure and recently Morara Kebaso among others, Gen Zs have made clear their disassociation with members of the political class.

The group has also largely identified itself as leaderless, tribeless, and partyless to prevent any attempts of being compromised by the wealthy political class.

Owing to his outstanding eloquence and visibility, Kasmuel is widely regarded as one of the leaders of the decentralized movement.

This changed recently when he began facing criticism for a series of events where he was seen with politicians and invited some of them to join the movement.

Kasmuel meets majority whip MP Sylvannus Osoro

In one of his regular visits to a local members’ club, Kasmuel met with government-allied MP Sylvannus Osoro where they had a brief chat before posing for a photo.

The photo that circulated online sparked speculation that the prominent good governance advocate had been bought by the government.

Kasmuel vehemently refuted allegations that he was working with the government.

According to McOure, it makes more sense to engage leaders directly when encountering them, rather than risking lives in the streets. The outspoken artist also noted that this was his first encounter with the MP.

“I go to that members’ club often and meet plenty of Kenyans there. The Majority Whip of Parliament is one of the many members. It was my first time meeting him, and I took the opportunity to say to his face what I’ve always said online: Their government has failed us in fundamental ways,” wrote the activist on Twitter (X).

The outspoken McOure shared more about their discussion, noting that although they disagreed on several points, they did find common ground on a few others.

 

 

 

 

Kasmuel McOure expresses interest in joining forces with Gachagua against Ruto

While calling on the Deputy President to resign from office, Kasmuel said there was space for him in the Gen Z-led popular movement.

“You and I have a common problem. If anything, your boss and his cronies are planning against you, they have also been planning against us,” said McOure while addressing Hon. Gachagua.

According to Kasmuel, the Deputy President is uniquely positioned to support the youth-led movement for good governance due to his extensive experience in government.

“Mr. Gachagua offers a very unique Public-private partnership to enable us to have a government for the people where we can partner with people in government. It doesn’t have to be direct, it can be a gentlemen’s agreement,” said McOure.

 

 

 

 

Kasmuel loses 20K followers within 72 hours after Bomas speech

Kasmuel’s speech at Bomas appears to be the final straw leading to widespread resentment, particularly among Kenyans online.

His speech seemed to befriend the MPs, fueling further speculation that politicians had coached him.

“Honorable members you are the ones in government. We have disagreed in public but I have had a chance to tell it to your faces, nobody is trying to burn this country. I saw them complaining in parliament that they need security. We don’t intend to harm these people, we need them to give us good policies,” said the activist.

Echoing the latest agenda of the political class, Kasmuel ended his speech by leading chants of “Gachagua Out!”

The speech is a stark contrast to the views of the Gen Zs who are calling for the removal of the country’s entire leadership, not just the Deputy President.

According to young Kenyans, the political class from the president, his deputy, ministers, and parastatal heads, to MPs and MCAs are responsible for the country’s economic mess.

By endorsing Gachagua’s impeachment Kasmuel has been suspected of supporting the government’s efforts to distract the public from serious issues such as the controversial takeover of the country’s aviation infrastructure by India’s Adani Group.

Kenyans on X have subsequently kicked off a #UnfollowKasmuel campaign that has gained traction, seeing the activist lose more than 20,000 followers in the last few hours.

The activist is, however, unfazed stating that he did not join the movement for online popularity as alleged by his detractors.

“Why would anyone threaten me with deplatforming? The real challenge is de-platforming me from your mothers’ hearts because they see beyond the sensationalism you’re trying to advance. Huku hata mkinirudisha 400 followers pahali nilikuwa 4 months ago sijali. Make it quick!” Wrote Kasmuel McOure alias Kaskazini.
