Charlene Ruto Opens Swahilipot FM in Mombasa
Charlene Ruto honored Swahilipot FM’s invitation to attend its launch in Mombasa. The radio station went on air under the 97.1 frequency.
From Mombasa, the FM station is poised to take the coastal region by storm, giving resident stations like Bahari and Pwani FM a run for their money.
The station is the latest one in a string of new FM stations in the coastal city. The first daughter also gave a maiden interview at the radio station, where she articulated matters relating to the youth.
Acknowledging that she is a millennial and not Gen Z, Ms Ruto maintained that it is her life’s purpose to help Kenyan youth lead better lives.
“I earlier worked in the private sector and was very comfortable. I didn’t know if I would get into this space. But 2 years ago, I became interested in young people and matters affecting them,” said Charlene.
Charlene’s interview was in line with her activities in Mombasa where she met and engaged with young entrepreneurs in the area.

International Youth Day was celebrated worldwide, with young people around the globe coming together to mark the occasion.
Amid the celebrations, tension rose in Tanzania as authorities forcefully turned back buses full of youth.
The youth were reportedly heading to a Youth Day rally organized by Tanzania’s top opposition politicians including Tundu Lissu. Tundu and his associates were quickly arrested and the event thrown into confusion.
Reports indicate that the government was worried the event might lead to instability in the country, akin to the recent nationwide protests seen in Kenya.
