Will Real Madrid Get Haaland Instead of Mbappe?
Soccer is arguably the most popular sport globally, with over 3.5 billion followers worldwide. It is reported that over 250 million people play soccer regularly, and it’s no wonder the sport has reached such a level of popularity.
Due to this high level of popularity, sports fanatics globally are keeping their eyes fixed on their favorite teams and players. They’re waiting anxiously to see how the transfers will go. Every season when the transfers happen, it’s a mad rush to get negotiations settled, and the best players signed, with this season being no different.

With Real winning the match this past week that has them advancing to the Champion League’s Semis, people are even more invested in the team.
The team already has Karim Benzema, one of the best strikers of his generation. He was one of the key players in the match that sent Real through to the semis. They are now looking for players to back up and make the best use of Benzema’s playmaking and excellent finishing.
Since the transfer negotiations had begun, Real Madrid was rumored to have their eyes set on two star players. These players are Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, both talented soccer players with impressive score records. However, where is this legendary soccer team standing now when it comes to these two players?
Kylian Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe is one of the best soccer players not only in his generation but in the world. He is known for his excellent dribbling, speed, and finishing, so it’s no surprise that Real wants to sign him. He would compliment Benzema and help take the load off the striker during matches.
As Mbappe is coming to the end of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, he is free to make a new transfer for free. There have been many talks about Real Madrid signing him, as they are the French soccer player’s preferred destination.
However, nothing is set in stone, as Mbappe’s parents, his representatives, are reportedly urging him to stay on with PSG instead. PSG went all out to try and keep Mbappe on, with a £150m signing fee and a £21m net annual salary they prepared. While Mbappe hasn’t confirmed whether he will move or stay on, it seems uncertain whether he will continue his transfer to Real as was thought earlier in the season.
Erling Haaland
In response to the situation with Mbappe, Real Madrid has started focusing their attention more aggressively on the other player they were in negotiations with. Erling Haaland is another one of the best strikers of his generation and is known for his prolific goalscoring, averaging more than one goal per game.
However, it has been reported that the Norwegian player’s salary demands are too high for the club to meet. While Real Madrid is willing to throw out big money to sign star players, they are not willing to put the club in danger to do so. Haaland has a transfer fee of £75m to break his contract, and that’s not considering the sign-up fee and annual net salary that still has to be part of the package.
Allegedly, Haaland has been offered a net annual salary of around £30m by Mathias Sammer to stay on at Borussia Dortmund. Real doesn’t seem willing to meet that figure, as their financial stability remains a top priority. However, there is still hope that Haaland might sign with the club, as the striker has made no secret of his desire to wear the white shirt.
Haaland over Mbappe?
With the way things are looking now, it seems like Real Madrid might manage to sign Haaland over Mbappe. This is because it looks like the French soccer player will be extending his contract with PSG. However, significant financial resources will have to be used to sign Haaland. Either that or the Norwegian star striker needs to lower his salary requirements slightly.
If Mbappe continues with PSG and Haaland doesn’t lower his salary requirements, Real Madrid might lose out on both star players they had their eye on. Sports fanatics worldwide keep an eye on this situation and wait to see how it turns out.
