How to make Beef Biryani

How to make Beef Biryani

My all-time  favorite meal; beef biryani. I can eat biriyani all day everyday. I am a big fan of curries I love biryani for its richness in different flavors.

I was taught how to make this finger licking dish by my loving mum.  So go ahead and try out my mama’s beef biryani recipe. You can substitute the beef with Chicken or Lamb. I have also tasted fish Biryani although I am yet to make it.

Ingredients

  1. 1Kg rice
  2. 1kg Beef
  3. Garlic paste
  4. Ginger Paste
  5. Ripe tomatoes
  6. Unripe Pawpaw, medium size
  7. Maziwa Mala or plain yoghurt  500ml
  8. Pilau Masala
  9. 8 Potatoes
  10. 1/2Kg of onions
  11. 500gms Tomato paste
  12. Cooking oil

Preparation

  1. In a large Sufuria, put your meat
  2. Grate the unripe pawpaw and add to the meat, add the ginger and garlic paste, plain yoghurt, Pilau masala and diced tomatoes. Mix them all up and leave to marinate for about 4hours in the fridge.
  3. Peel your potatoes and deep fry them. Do not let them to cook, just for the outside to dry and form a crust.
  4. Cut the onions into medium size and using the same oil, fry all the onions until golden brown and set aside.
  5. After 4 hours, put our marinated mixture on medium heat and let it boil until all water dries up. Keep stirring so it does not stick at the bottom of the sufuria
  6. Add the potatoes and then tomato paste and then stir and let it cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Pour in the onions plus the oil, mix well and let it cook until you can see the oil on top of the mixture. That means now our biryani is ready.
  8. To make the rice, boil rice as usual with salt and a tablespoon of cooking oil until it’s almost dry. In a cup mix ¼ cup water with a teaspoon of egg yellow or orange food color. Sprinkle the water to the rice and cover for the rice to dry up.
  9. To serve, mix the cooked rice so that the colored and the white rice mix well.
  10. Serve your biryani with rice and accompany with fresh juice.

Tips

  1. Biryani takes long to prepare and cook so start your preparation very early. Give it about 6hours from marinating to when it is cooked.
  2. To make the biryani stew more and heavier, you can add carrots and increase the quantity of plain yoghurt.
  3. The unripe pawpaw is for softening the meat so ensure is it very unripe
  4. To reduce the tanginess, add sugar
